Best Foot Forward (BFF) Reading Program
Fostering a lifetime love of reading
Moffett's Best Foot Forward (BFF) program is a PTA-sponsored, supplemental and voluntary reading program available for students in kindergarten through 5th grade.
Students get to check out at least one new book from the BFF Library each week, which is separate and independent from the school library. After they finish reading the book, they complete an in-person interview, conducted by a BFF Volunteer.
BFF Permission
The purpose of this program is to encourage students to read for enjoyment by offering appropriate, engaging books at each grade level. Some students may not yet be able to read their books alone or have the confidence to do so, and we encourage parents to read the books with their child. As the year progresses, you will find that your child will being to be able to read sentences and possibly the whole book, on their own!
The following is a list of the BFF Program Guidelines. We ask that you go over them with your child.
Come only during the designated times and come prepared (you must have read the entire book)
Come only once per day. After hours interviews are not allowed. Unsupervised children may not be in the BFF room when it is closed
Return your book on time. You may keep a book for one week. After that it is considered overdue.
Students/Parents are responsible for the replacement cost of all lost books. Replacements cost between $6-20 and will be due if the book is not returned by the end of the year. You may also purchase a replacement on your own and send it with your child.
Read at your color/reading level as determined by your teacher.
Students who leave their classroom to come to BFF are expected to go directly to and from the BFF room.
Students are also expected to exhibit library (quite, no running/yelling) behavior while at BFF. Students requiring more than one (1) verbal warning may be sent back to their classroom without and interview.
Please fill out the below permission form to acknowledge receipt of the BFF guidelines and have reviewed them with your student.
